Discovery (SOLD)

"Discovery" 8x8 oil on canvas, ©Laura Gable
Whimsical and fluid in movement, she floats about on this lovely day. Recognizing at least for today, that she is connected to everything and all is one.

Painted in oils on an ampersand gessoboard.

Emergent Growth

Emergent Growth, ©Laura Gable, 16x20 watercolor on paper
Reaching from within the vines, I find an abundance of flavorful fruit at my fingertips. I reach forth as though my hands and arms were growing on the same stalks and vines as this abundant plant. The hand melds with the growth and makes a plentiful offering.

Painted in watercolor on a gold gessoed paper. The paint has a brighter tone than it would if painted traditionally on absorbent paper.

Orange Valley

"Orange Valley" 6x6, oil on cradled panel, ©Laura Gable
The Monument Valley region of Arizona is one of my favorite places to visit. Though I've been there in person many years ago, this is the first painting that I've done based on the memory of the place. The sunset was catching the tops of the foremost bushes causing them to almost glow from within -- like the soulful person who has a deep inner glow. It was truly a golden hour.

Into the canyons and buttes of old,
we travel with misty eyes
Our heartbeats follow this ancient rhythm
of drum beats rising from the center of the earth.

(This is painted on a 3/4" deep art panel).

Domicile of Color

"Domicile of Color" 8x8 oil on board, ©Laura Gable
"Tucked beneath the sheltering leaves,
the nested home awaits the return of it's caretakers.
They protect it from harm and warm the eggs.
For once this sweet trio of tiny birds is born
into this world aloft within the arms of this supporting tree,
their task ensues: to feed with great urgency.
A loving duty shared by both adults."

I love playing with my color palette here, and using unexpected colors in the shadows and crevices. The network of leaves in the background is my favorite area, and I love this broken textured area just spattered with branches and leaves.

Rose on Cream

"Rose on Cream" 8x8 oil on board, ©Laura Gable
"Nurtured by nature your blooms burst forth,
You greet the day with marvelous magnificence
Crimson and rose tones on a cream colored cloth
the periwinkle shadows are delicious to behold."

I wanted to paint a simple red flower to indicate my love and prayers for the people of Oklahoma, that were affected by the recent tornadoes. This painting is currently at auction with a starting price of only $45 on dailypaintworks website. I am donating 100% of the proceeds to the Red cross fund for these victims. It all happens automatically once the auction closes on the website.

Lean on Me

"Lean on Me" 8x10 watercolor on aquaboard, ©Laura Gable

Two pear friends snuggle in close, almost like yin and yang. With both leaning in towards the center they become symbiotic partners, supporting each other and creating a magnificent whole. Perhaps that is how it is with the significant people in our lives. Together we create beautiful synergy, and sometimes we question where the one starts and the other leaves off.

The colorful blanket grounds this little still life, painted in bright tones with watercolor on aqua board.

Vineyard Glimpse

10 "Vineyard Glimpse" 8x8 oil on board, ©Laura Gable, $110

Warm grapes in a cool vineyard,
harvest time is nearing,
listen to the rustle of wind in the leaves,
stories worth hearing
of erstwhile beginnings
they thrive in this setting.

We live in an area prevalent with orchards, vineyards, and wineries. It's a little bit like mini-Napa here in Eastern Washington. The burgeoning wine community is a large part of our regional agricultural industry.

Pinky Drinky

"Pinky Drinky" watercolor on aquaboard, 8x8, ©Laura Gable
$110, Click here to purchase
Here is a playful watercolor painting on aquaboard, with a bright juxtaposition of color and harmony. Also I'm playing with angular lines and ellipses. This is one of my favorite teacups. I'm the crazy lady with the tea cup collection, so occasionally they do sneak into my paintings. I am using these little beauties more frequently now, since I've decided that even the fine china should be used.

Demitasse Tea Cup

"Demitasse Tea Cup" 8x8 watercolor on aquaboard, ©Laura Gable
$110, if you love this to the moon and back,
and can't bear to live without it, please click here to purchase

Using aquaboard is an interesting venture. The colors land so brilliantly on the surface, and do not dry much lighter as does traditional watercolor paper. The paint is easily removed in areas where you want to lift the color. It has a textured surface, so must be careful not to remove this texture when lifting. I did that once and ended up with a very smooth surface which definitely behaved in a different fashion.

Playing with complimentary colors here with another of my treasured tea cups.

On a Blue Day (SOLD)

"On a Blue Day" ©Laura Gable, 8x8 oil on board, $110

A jaunty sunflower tucked away in a tea cup with a brilliant blue background. Very fun and exciting color combos. A little playful for a Friday. I have a number of tea cups and have chosen recently to use them. It is fun to have a little tea party with these lovely little beauties.

Wandering among the flowers and vines in my front yard, my heart goes all aflutter when I note that the Rose of Sharon bush is in full bloom. I love this little bush, which came to us in a bare-root state with little inkling as to what it would become. And it had become a beauty with it's pink blossoms that go seem to last forever. Perhaps that's how it is with people. We're born all cute and wiggly with mounds of flesh and happy eyes, so much promise as to what we'll become but definitely a mystery after all. To see the child blossom as they seek out their own special interests is truly a string of magical moments indeed.

Painted in a loose painterly style, using bright transparent underpainting with heavier applications of oil floated over top. Hope you enjoy this small bit of happiness today.

Red Onion Sonnet

This large red onion sat playfully in a pool of color, and came away as the shiniest part of the painting. Love the red onion in a salad, they have such a sharp flavor. This was the first painting in my 100 day challenge that I started and ended last summer to winter.  It was a learning experience, and a joy to create so much in such a short period of time.

Dalliance (sold!)

still life,oil on board,8x8,price $110
copyright Laura Gable SOLD

Being a Nebraska girl, I am constantly drawn to sunflowers. They have a whimsy about them, with bobbing heads in the slightest of breezes. And the centers have such expressive face like qualities. I completed this painting in the studio last August, on a very hot day. It's energetic brushwork is sometimes like second nature, sometimes I have to dig it out of the bottom of the well. It appeared more effortless on this day.

[Dear constant follower. You may see some duplication here, as I am loading the unsold and unframed work into my dailypaintworks portfolio. Until I get an opportunity to get fully back into my studio after this year's hiatus, you may continue to see some repetition.]

Batterbowl and Figs

still life,oil on board,8x8,price $110
copyright Laura Gable
Reprising a previous entry, this was painted on a cool day in May -- a studio still life with the antique spouted mixing bowl in the most delicious shade of turquoise. The figs were cut and ready to be eaten, and they were juicy and yet very mild. A fig examined, is quite a little treasure.

Absent artist

I've been scarce in the studio this year. My sweetie has been ill, and I've been busy taking care of him. Hoping things will turn around soon, and I can get painting and posting again. Stay tuned.
